RE: Wondering about next year

We're planning for an extended trip to Wisconsin and Minnesota. Seems to be lots to see in the area - anxious to get going. This year was our first for seeing the country by TT - our learning year. We ended the summer with a ten day trip to historic Virginia. Totaled about thirty nights out, traveling nearly 2,000 miles on eleven different trips and made it into six different states. Our goal is to surpass those numbers this coming summer/fall. We will make it to as many Ohio state parks as we can during the spring/summer and then our extended trip in the fall. We make it through the winter by planning that extended trip. We've got information coming from tourist bureau's of both states. Looking forward to the trip and the summer preparing for it. Just seems so far away. But, we will be out as much as possible. ________________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: water

Major difference is the anxieties of using up your carried water. Not a real problem as is simply a matter of driving to source and refilling your tank. Usually a very simple operation but DW is often concernced that we might be using up our water supply. It wasn't until our extended trip this past summer to Virginia that we always had city water hook ups. Until then, we always used our own water tanks. Discovered we really liked full hook ups - got really used to full service hook ups. Otherwise, no real difference. ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: What are your plans for '09??

We're in the planning process as we speak. I've asked for information and am planning an extended trip into Wisconsin and Minnesota. Seems to be a lot to see and do - looking forward to it. This was our first summer for using our TT to get around - spent nearly 30 nights out traveling nearly 2,000 miles on 11 trips. Our longest trip was ten days in historic Virginia. What a great time!! We really enjoyed time spent in Penna. as well as Virginia. Looking forward to the upper mid-west next summer. We will spend lots of extended weekends in SPs around Ohio. We will stay in Indiana and Illinois on our way to Wisconsin and in Michigan on our way back. Thinking about Washington DC for Cherry BLossom Festival in the spring. Will be anxious to get out after the winter. Winter seems to have arrived VERY early this year - snow on the ground for the past three-four days (we miss trailering!!!) Will continue planning and looking forward to the spring. __________________________________ 2007 Airstream Internaitonal SS OB 2004 Nissas Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy Brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and though a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Campground Rating Results

Being new at trailering and traveling, we haven't yet learned all the names of the travel organizations. I see this one is probably associated with one of those organizations - membership, etc... The only cg listed in Ohio is one with which I am familiar and it ISN'T the best or most outstanding in Ohio. There is one identified with perfect 10/10/10 by TL but it isn't listed. The one that is listed has been graded with an 8.5/9/8.5 - a significant difference! And, having been in that cg, and recognizing it's shortcomings, as did TL, I am surprised that it is listed as an outstanding cg. I think there is more to these listings than simply "the camper's voice." I suspect this is true of others on the list. These are simply my observations, and if I'm proven wrong, I'll be glad to admit it - but....... ____________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

Minnesota/Wisconsin sites not to miss

We are planning our '09 major trip, probably in early September, and will spend time in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We are studying the travel and places of interest books to put together the trip but are wondering if there has been something you've seen that must not be missed. We will get to the Walker in Minneapolis and the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Dells and Door County but is there something else?? We hate to return home and discover something we should have seen. This is an area we've never visited and look forward to spending some time in some nice campgrounds - any suggestions?? Thanks for your efforts. __________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Winterized today, shed a tear. :(

I agree!! I've already shed my tears but one creeps out now and then. We'll stop by on occasion to see her sitting there awaiting the spring just like we are. This was our very first year of trailering, having never been in a trailer or hauled a trailer any place. We didn't get so many nights out this first year but we did get out 30 nights on eleven trips and hauled it nearly 2,000 miles. This was our learning year and we certainly plan to get out more next year. We're already planning the places we hope to get to, to see and to visit. I share your feelings and your pain. ____________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: The Next Exit vs. Exit Now?

I carry Next Exit but I've never used it while underway. I look through the upcoming route for the following day just to get an idea of what is where but, to date, I've not had to use it while traveling. I like the idea of having it with me - I'll probably purchase the updated version every other year or so but no annually. Nice reference tool - may come in really handy one day but so far, I've not HAD to use it. __________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Don’t buy State Farm RV insurance

Lots of comments!! Lots of unhappiness!! I called my State Farm agent after reading all these comments and asked him about their coverage. He was really concerned about folks disatisfaction and hatred of the company he works hard for. He showed me the checks he's recently sent out for damage caused by the recent hurricane that did damaged all the way up here in Ohio after crashing through Texas and surrounding areas. He told me not to worry as he's repaired my auto after an accident the totaled the pick-up that pulled out in front of me. He also fixed my car after a deer jumped in front of me. My rates haven't changed a bit. I feel very confident that State Farm is behind me and will do their part should they be called upon. The insurance company of the pick up driver tried to get me to pay his repair bill as, in their determination, the accident was my fault. State Farm straightened them out in no uncertain terms. My insurance agent also questioned many of the complaints about the State Farm adjusters as State Farm doesn't use adjusters. He found that to be very interesting. Happy Trails to all. ____________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: RV Directories

Trailer Life is the one I go to first. I have one of them at home and one in the TT. RVparkreviews is the one I go to as soon as we've selected a campground. I really enjoy the research that goes into our travels. The one thing we all have to do is learn to read between the lines. With a little practice, you'll learn how to read the information, what folks say and what they mean. All it takes is practice - keep looking through them and studying them to see what they really mean. I've written this before and it is so true - learn to know what folks are really saying when they make the comments they make. We like Trailer Life even though I have Woodalls, Frommers and Trailer Life. ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer Hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: The art of towing

The beauty of learning how to back your trailer using the hands on the wheels as described is that one doesn't have to think about it. I learned to back a trailer the old fashion way - and I still have to think about it every time I back up. I can do it but there are times when I just need to tweak the trailer a bit that I forget which way to turn the wheel - but remembering this new "hands at the bottom of the steering wheel simplifies it dramatically. If "newbies" learn only that simple system, it will save embarassment, dings, dents and insurance claims. And, believe me, I'm still a "newbie" having just completed our first year of trailering. And I love it!!! The rest of the information was well worth the read - thank you for passing on the link. ____________________________________ 2007 Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy Brake Control "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

Are you wondering about doing it???

We've just put our (new last February) TT away for the winter. We'd never been on a TT before but having boated for three years on the Great Lakes, we missed being out in the natural surroundings and seeing new parts of the country. We purchased our new TT last February 29th and this was the summer to learn how to use it. Now that the summer is over, we just returned from our last long weekend having driven into Michigan for four nights. We're not trying to set any records, BUT we feel darn good having pulled our TT over 1700 miles on 11 trips into 6 different states and spending 28 nights out. We feel so much more comfortable now than we did that first couple of times when the learning curve was nearly straight up! We've gone through so many FIRSTS that it's really fun going back through our travel journal and re-reading about each of our trips. If you are thinking about it - wondering if you can do it, JUST DO IT! We had absolutely no experience with trailering when we decided to do it. Now that we've done it for a season, we find it will be very difficult waiting for nearly six months before we can get back to it. We had so much fun I fully encourange anyone that is thinking about it to do it. You'll meet people that will make you wish you'd started years ago. Friendly, helpful people abound out there and with very little effort, they will enrich your life more than you would ever expect. Don't waste away wondering if it's the right thing to do or if you can do it - do it and you'll love it. Short trips, long trips, state parks and private RV resorts. Some are better than others but all have something to offer. Good luck - enjoy - and maybe it is time to move away from winter weather so we can spend more time 'streaming. _______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Do you lock your doors when you leave your rv when at a park

ALWYAS! Especially in a park that allows outsiders to simply drive around. No way to protect yourself in such a situation - if someone is looking to make a quick hit. When in a protected area - outsiders kept outside (if that's possible), I'll still lock it up when leaving. I usually put other loose items in the back of my vehicle when leaving - just to be on the save side. I don't always pack everything up but if given a chance, if I think about it or if we're leaving for an appreciable amount of time, I try to be on the safe side. It isn't my fellow RVers that I worry about nearly as much as the "general public" that probably had access to the campgrounds. _______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Brochures, Maps, Fliers--what do you save?

My wife loves to pick up brochures, hand-outs, maps, etc.. We look at it that evening and if there is anything we missed during the day, we'll plan to check it out before we leave the area. Anything of interest, I write it in the Trip Journal I keep of our journeys - I can always look back to check out anything we wish to read about at anytime. All the materials we pick up are then disposed of - once it is read. It does provide reading material for the evenings. And it is surprising how many places we've seen because of info we picked up someplace else. Just this summer, we altered our plans so we could visit Stratford Hall, home of the Lees of Virginia and birthplace of Robert E. Lee. And we would have never known about it had we not picked up brochures. Looking back on our trip, it was one of the highlights! You gotta read brochures - but you don't have to keep them! _________________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake system "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Hocking Hills State Park - Ohio...

We live in Hocking County and have camped at HHSP. At the present time we are camped at Aquia Pines outside Washington D.C. but as others have mentioned, you'll have no problem at the BEAUTIFUL Hocking Hills S.P. BUT, be aware of some very uneven pads! Some have steep drop offs and some are steeper. Otherwise, everything that has been mentioned above holds true. Enjoy the park! Electricity only but plenty of water there and easy dump station. A nice store also. ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: raleigh nc to ohio amish country

If you are coming up Rte. 62 into central Ohio, I would suggest you get on I-71 just south of Columbus, OH - take i-71 north to I-270 and take it around the east side of Columbus. It will intersect with Rte. 62 again in the northeast quadrant of Columbus and will save you a headache of a drive THRU Columbus. Get off at the Rte. 62/Gahanna exit and go to the third traffic light and turn LEFT on Mill St. Mill St. becomes Johnstown Road which is Rte. 62. You can then enjoy the remainder of the drive up to Holmes County. Give yourself plenty of time up there - lots to see. Don't overlook Evergreen Park RV Resort in Mt. Eaton (close to Holmes County sites). It is one of the very few 10/10/10 rated parks in the U.S. by Trailer Life. It is also a Good Sam Park - a top rated facility with lots to do. After you enter Ohio, you will not be too far from Serpent's Mound. It is one of the great sites NOT TO BE MISSED. It is an indian mound in the shape of a great serpent that is hundreds of feet long. A very moving experience to know such a thing was built thousands of years ago. Enjoy your trip into Ohio. I would really be anxious to hear how your trip up through West Virginia goes. I've been avoiding making that same trip - rather, going into PA and then down into Virginia to avoid the West Virginia highways and hills. Enjoy! ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Somerset, PA to Charlottesville, VA

I cannot thank you all enough! Great suggestions and I have read each and every one while following along with a map. I have marked all and now we will decide which way we'll take. Several have suggested the Skyline Drive - we've driven that (before trailer) and you are right, it is one beautiful drive. That is not in our plans this trip. We want to get to C'ville sooner than later as there are several places we wish to visit - may run out of time as it is. Again, THANKS to all who responded. Trailers are fun - trailer-owners are the best! _______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake control "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

Somerset, PA to Charlottesville, VA

I plan to continue East in PA to the I-70 cut off towards Hagerstown and then take I-81 south. My question, would you recommend continuing on I-81 to I-64 and go east to Charlottesville or are the roads good enough (and scenic enough) to cut over on I-66 near Front Royal and then work my way south through Culpeper, etc. This will be our first trip of any distance, pulling our 25' and I'm not looking to see how high, fast or curvy roads can be. I'm unfamiliar with both routes. Thank you for any information you might be able to pass on. _______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: time for a new gps

I've never had - never used a GPS until my recent retirement and my co-workers bought me a Garmin nuvi for my new part-time work. I live in southeastern Ohio and have made deliveries all over Ohio and even to Kankakee, IL and Philadelphia. My Garmin took me right to the front door in every single case. I've make 35 trips out of town and I wouldn't go any place without my Garmin. I would NEVER go on a trip without having a good idea of my route before hand because the GPS may take you in a way you don't wish to go if it would save a couple of miles. They are very good at finding the shortest distance. I've gotten very dependent upon my Garmin - I love it and wouldn't have anything else even though I thought I wanted a Magellan when I started out. But, people that know about the systems explained why I wanted the Garmin nuvi and they were right! Good luck with your search. ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: McKesh Mirrors

I had heard about McKesh mirrors and ordered them when we got our new TT. The only thing to be aware of AHEAD OF TIME, is the color of the nylon straps that holds them on. I have a black TV and my straps are very white. They come in both white and black and I don't know what other colors BUT if you have a chance, make sure you get a color that goes well with your TV. I really like them - no shaking and no vibration. Great image. My right side screw that holds the mirror in the correct place tends to come loose too often. I've had to tighten it a couple of times - I make look for another solution. Enjoy them!!! ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake control "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."

RE: Directions???????

Mapquest has certainly done one heck of a sales job - so many people use it! It had the place I worked several blocks away from its true location. Many people have told me how Mapquest makes a lot of mistakes. I never use it! I find that randmcnally.com does an excellent job. After all, they are the map people - they should know something about making maps and giving directions. Good luck - I find my GPS works wonders if I'm trying to find an address or location. ______________________________________ 2007 25' Airstream International SS OB 2004 Nissan Armada Equalizer hitch Prodigy brake controlls "It's better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool Than to open it and remove all doubt."
